Relay for Life
SELECT MEDICAL EMPLOYEES "CELEBRATE, REMEMBER AND FIGHT BACK."
Select Medical was proud to be the presenting sponsor of the 2011 Camp Hill Relay for Life held at Trinity High School in Central Pennsylvania. Team members from the company's Mechanicsburg headquarters have participated in the event since it began in 2004. Called "Kallan's Klan," the team was originally organized by Select Medical's director of tax, Lora Hammaker, in honor of her daughter, Kallan, who had just been diagnosed with pediatric brain cancer.
Despite the cancer that affected her balance and made walking a challenge, Kallan enjoyed actively participating in Relay until her passing in 2007. She remains an inspiration to the Select Medical team that continues to walk in her memory, as well as the many co-workers, friends and loved ones affected by cancer.
Select Medical's support for Relay for Life does not end in Central Pennsylvania, however. Over the years, Select Medical employees have organized teams throughout the country. In June 2011, Kessler Institute for Rehabilitation's team, "Cruising for a Cure," raised more than $4,300 a West Orange, New Jersey relay while the "Select Specialty Hospital Sluggers" from the company's long-term acute care hospital in Bristol, Tennessee raised more than $5,000 for its local event.
