Since 2001, Select Medical and its employees have donated more than $20 million to the local communities in which we live and work. Select Medical's commitment to the community also includes countless volunteer hours to high-impact organizations.
Therapists from Kessler Institute for Rehabilitation - West Orange participated in The Polar Bear Plunge to raise more than $11,000 for the Special Olympics of New Jersey.
Select Specialty Hospital - Nashville hosted a food drive for Second Harvest Food Bank as part of Hospital Week in May 2011, nearly doubling their goal to hit 500 pounds by collecting 946 pounds!

Kessler Institute for Rehabilitation's "Cruising for a Cure" team raised more than $4,300 for this year's Relay for Life in West Orange, NJ.
Since 2003, Select Medical has donated more than $75,000 to the American Heart Association of the Capital Region. In 2011, employees from the corporate campus, Select Specialty Hospital - Central PA and the local WorkNet center joined forces to raise $8,221 for the Start! Heart Walk in Harrisburg, PA.
The "Team Select" cyclists, employees and friends from our corporate campus in Mechanicsburg participate in several annual charity rides including the 2010 MS 150 in Millersville, PA.
"Team Select" participants skied 158,130 feet to win the Vertical Feet Challenge at the 2011 Leukemia and Lymphoma Society's Ski4Life, sponsored in part by Select Medical.

NovaCare staff from southern New Jersey participated in the MS 150 City to Shore ride in September 2011. The 50-plus member team has raised more than $40,000 in the past two years. As the exclusive rehabilitation sponsor of the event, 45 NovaCare volunteers provided services at the starting point in Cherry Hill, N.J., and at the main rest stop in Egg Harbor Township, N.J., dedicating their weekend to provide insight into injury prevention as well as encouragement and nutritional support for ALL riders in this event.
The Select Medical Rehabilitation Services (SMRS) region one team participated in the Susan G. Komen 3-Day for the Cure in Atlanta, Ga., in October 2011. Led by Genise Pedrick, regional vice president, the team consisted of nine women who walked 60 miles in three days and raised $24,000 towards finding a cure for cancer.
NovaCare employees from Bentleyville, Pa., race in memory of a young high school athlete, Alex Loos, who was struck and killed by a speeding car in 2004 while walking home from Bentworth High School following a session of soccer conditioning. Each year since the tragedy, the town of Bentleyville shuts down to host a run benefiting the From Alex With Love Foundation.
The Select Physical Therapy/NovaCare New England cycling team, pictured in front of the division’s Mobile Sports Medicine Center, raised more than $1,000 in the Jim Calhoun Cancer Challenge 50-mile Ride in June 2011. This marked the second year the team participated in this annual event held in Simsbury, Conn.
A team of 24 riders from the Kessler Institute for Rehabilitation raised $11,776 for the American Diabetes Association as part of the New York City Tour de Cure.
Riders from the Kessler Institute for Rehabilitation cycled distances of 30, 45, 62 and 100 miles to raise $11,776 for the American Diabetes Association as part of the New York City Tour de Cure. In the case of this dedicated Team Kessler group, it was actually 118 miles due to a little detour!
The SSM Rehabilitation team in St. Louis, Mo., rallied together to raise $15,000 for Brendan's Playground, which opened on October 1st. Designed as an all-inclusive, accessible playground for youngsters of all abilities, it is named for a local child with a rare genetic disease who has difficulty using traditional playground equipment.
Thanks to a little friendly competition, employees from our Mechanicsburg, Pa., headquarters donated 99 units of life-saving blood in a single day! Select Medical’s president and chief operating officer Pat Rice, center, presented a traveling trophy to the outpatient division’s central business office team for donating the most units in the quarterly blood drive challenge.
