Within supportive and dynamic care environments, the organization's expert rehabilitation teams offer advanced treatment and state-of-the-science technologies, all of which are tailored to each patient's unique needs and goals.
Comprehensive care addresses the medical, physical, emotional and vocational challenges of individuals with brain injury, spinal cord injury, stroke, amputation, neurological disorders, orthopedic conditions and multiple traumas. Specialized and intensive programs of care are designed to restore strength, improve physical and cognitive function and promote independence in activities of daily living. From Pennsylvania to California, the Select Medical network of rehabilitation hospitals includes nearly 20 care locations, including the nationally renowned Kessler Institute for Rehabilitation in New Jersey. As the nation's largest single rehabilitation hospital, Kessler Institute is one of only six federally designated Model Systems in the United States for the treatment and research of both spinal cord and brain injuries. As recently as 2014, it was ranked by U.S. News and World Report as one of the nation's top two medical rehabilitation hospitals.
Select Medical has also partnered with leading health care systems such as the Baylor Health Care System and SSM Health Care - St. Louis to create regional rehabilitation networks that serve major metropolitan markets. In 2011, U.S. News and World Report designated Baylor Health Care System and Select Medical's Baylor Institute for Rehabilitation as a "high-performing" hospital, and ranked it among the top 25 percent of rehabilitation facilities in the nation. In addition, Penn State Hershey Rehabilitation Hospital -- a joint venture between Select Medical and Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center -- offers advanced adult and pediatric rehabilitation care.
