    Brad Henry

    Select Specialty Hospital-Springfield, Missouri

Brad Henry, a 45-year-old international customer service representative, had just celebrated his youngest son's birthday. During the next few days, Brad found himself getting sick. He was admitted to the hospital with a high fever, wheezing and unable to breathe. Brad had influenza complicated by pneumonia. The pneumonia led to respiratory failure and he was put on a ventilator. The next month in ICU was full of ups and downs, but Brad's wife had faith that he would recover. "When he woke up, I had to tell him everything he missed. We had celebrated our 9th anniversary in the ICU." His next step to recovery was at Select Specialty Hospital-Springfield. When he admitted to Select, Brad had a tracheostomy, feeding tube and was very debilitated. An aide told him, "You're going to walk out of here and when you do, I'll be there." Almost one month later, Brad was free of the trach and no longer needed the feeding tube. He was discharged home and walked out assisted by a walker and the aide who had promised to be by his side. Brad and Julie had a lot to celebrate on their 10th anniversary, so they took their two boys on a cruise to the Bahamas.
