    Select Specialty Hospital, Erie, PA

For Patricia Aughtry, caring for her family and honoring her late husband’s service to our country were her life’s cornerstones. As an active mother, grandmother and American Legion Auxiliary volunteer, the 66-year-old was their center as well.

When Patricia was admitted to our hospital in January 2015, she was in respiratory failure, had significant medical issues and ventilator dependent. As if her complex medical condition wasn’t stressful enough, her family’s choice to send her to our hospital meant she would be a 90-minute drive away. It was tough, the family said, but they had hope we would help her fully recover.

Our respiratory team got to work immediately. Patricia was successfully weaned from the ventilator and demonstrated significant wound healing. After making significant progress, Patricia was transferred to a sub-acute care center closer to home.

She is happily recovering with her children and grandchildren by her side. She is grateful, however, for the time her hospital family spent working with her to ensure a safe return home.

“Everyone was so kind,” Patricia said. “They made my hospital stay bearable.”
